This is the 4th generation of the Caauwe
Family Website. It all started in the mid 1990's with a
need to understand (what was then) the Internet craze. A
few of the ISP's offered a 'static' IP and after registering the
name, the Caauwe Family Website was born. The first website
was a collection of HTML web pages, but was enough to spark an
interest in providing more dynamic content.
The 2nd generation was developed using Active Server Pages (ASP)
technology and was the first to offer a football pool to my
family... it caught on. My family enjoyed playing the
friendly competition of a weekly football pool. The 3rd
generation was developed using 'C' sharp (C#) and a Microsoft
.NET environment. The football pool was once again one of
the primary functions, but different applications, such as photo
sharing, java applet games and messaging were added. The
development environment allowed for quick method of producing
applications while ensuring a stable operation.
Sometime during the mid 2000's, the Java development environment
matured and many new tools and applications became available so
work started on this, the 4th generation of the website.
The operating systems, supporting applications and development
tools used to create and publish this website were developed
using open-source technology. Contained in the 'About' menu item
above, there is a Website Setup page which
details the development, test and production environments.
If you're looking for the one of the applications on this website
(for example, the Football
application), move your cursor to 'Site' in the navigation menu
above, and all of the available applications will be displayed. |
